Cranes
Sandhill cranes gather at Mosque del Apache during the winter months. They spend the night in ponds both inside and outside the park. As dawn comes they take off in small groups to spend the days flying and eating at the corn fields. You can tell when a crane will take off. It leans forward as if looking for a clear flight path. The sun is often in a great location when they return to the ponds in late afternoon.
